Covered mostly with mountain ranges and rangelands, Wyoming was chosen as a location for the Modern Family's episode in which the family takes a summer vacation.
The holiday episode of the Emmy award-winning comedy series, starring Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen and others, was filmed on Lost Creek Ranch in Teton County and was broadcast on the ABC network last week.
The Wyoming Tourism board estimates that nearly $500,000 (£321,460) in publicity has been garnered from hosting the cast and crew of the series. Wyoming tourism director, Diane Shober said that over 400 newspaper, magazine and website articles have been published about the holiday episode.
Ms Shober said: "Once the show is broadcast, combined with the re-airings that follow, the state will attain publicity on a scale we could never afford in our tourism marketing budget."
She added: "We truly believe that not only the guest ranches but all of Wyoming's tourism industry is poised to gain a major boost from this popular show."
