Modge Podge Silhouette Canvas

       Over at Tatertots and Jello, I found a genius Guest Post from the lovely Char from Crap I've Made.
I'd been searching. and searching. and guess what? SEARCHING. For a project to do to get rid of my boredom. When I came across it, I knew it was PERFECT.
This is her creation:

I grabbed some 12x12 canvas from my craft room and got started. 

I found some outlines of the eiffel tower and a couple and printed them out:

 I cut them out using scissors and an exacto knife and played around with the positioning

I cut out LOTS of colorful magazine bits in random shapes and sizes

 For modge podge, I just take a half empty (or half full!) bottle of glue and fill it about 3/4 to the top with water. Easy, free modge podge. Score.

And modgemodged them to the canvas... and discovered my brush had blue paint in it. After many failed attempts to wash it out, I just decided to use my fingers.

It's really just as fun as finger painting!

DONE!

 I waited until the canvas was just barely tacky and laid my figures down. The wet modge podge held my figures in place.

I painted around using my lovely cinnamon brown paint. It's darker in person.

And now for the final-ish reveal!

I tried sanding it, hence the big colorful spots. FAIL. I tried staining it, hence the the poop brown spot. FAIL.

The hideous gel stain thankfully wiped off and I tried using another one.

The magazine bits added some nice texture. 

I filled in the spots and let it have a test drive of the bathroom. 

I'm just not a fan of the fact that I had one little brownish piece at the top of the Eiffel tower and it sort of blends in with the background. Annoying. I also accidently murdered the heel of one of the girl's shoes. Whoops.
