Nik Wallenda's Bid to Conquer Niagara Falls

Tightrope walker Nik Wallenda is expected to meet with members of the Niagara Parks Commission today to persuade them to grant him permission to go across Niagara Falls. The stunt needs the endorsement of the Ontario commission, which so far has said it is not interested in Wallenda's proposed stunt.

"It absolutely does not fit the brand of the Niagara Parks, of the mandate we have to preserve and conserve and beautify the Falls," said Janice Thomson, the interim commission chair.

Wallenda is hoping to walk above the falls in the spring or summer of 2012 walk. His own rescue helicopter and dive teams would stand by, and his father would coach him through an earpiece, he said. The walk would take about 45 minutes.
