Marie Osmond Joins Resort Fee Protest

CBS/AP: Marie Osmond is protesting in Las Vegas with dozens of showgirls, calling for an end to resort fees charged to guests at many of the city's hotels.

Osmond and the roughly 50 performers from the Jubilee! show at Bally's Las Vegas hotel-casino marched on the Las Vegas Strip Thursday morning to promote Caesars Entertainment's no-feel policy.

A handful of Las Vegas hotels, including the Bellagio, MGM Grand and Venetian, charge a mandatory resort fee, ranging from $4.50 - $24.99 per night, according to Vegas.com.

Caesars Entertainment claims its no-fees policy saves travelers $3 million per month.

The fees are usually not included in an advertised room rate. They cover hotel amenities ranging from fitness center access and internet service to valet parking. The event Thursday morning was dubbed a gesture of solidarity with the American consumer.

"It's extremely important for visitors to the city to be aware of the high prices they could be paying in mandatory resort fees," Osmond, who headlines a show at the Flamingo Las Vegas with her brother Donny, said in a release. "I am proud to be part of this key initiative and even more proud to be headlining at a 'No Resort Fees' property."

Magicians Penn & Teller, 98 Degrees star Jeff Timmons, and other Las Vegas entertainers also joined the protest.
