Starbucks and April Fool's Day

Clearly, Starbucks loves April Fool's Day.

In 2010 they announced two new sizes called the plenta and the micra. The plenta would hold 128 ounces of coffee (six times its biggest size at the time) and the micra would hold 2 ounces. Social networking sites went wild over the news with hundreds voicing approval or disapproval until the joke was finally revealed. Like a good April Fool's stunt, it was just plausible enough to be believed but also ridiculous enough to be questioned. In the end, most people laughed it off as a clever marketing ploy.

In 2009 there was the “Starbucks PlugPour, Coffee Through Your USB Port” announcement. The company even created a Twitter account called SBUXPlugPour that quickly garnered over 100 followers.

This year? The company just announced Starbucks Mobile Pour "that puts baristas on scooters. In seven of the largest cities around the country, we’re sending out two scooter baristas per every square mile to ensure speedy service."

You've been warned -- don't let anyone catch you standing on a street corner today waiting for a Starbucks barista to deliver your morning jolt.
