Theme Park Calling All Easter Egg Dippers

Charlotte Observer: Carowinds is dying to set a world record this weekend.

Or dyeing, that is.

The theme park best-known for roller coasters like the Intimidator and Nighthawk is hoping to earn some Guinness-size recognition this weekend. Beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, during the ninth annual Easter Egg-stravaganza, the park is attempting to set a world record for the largest number of people dyeing Easter eggs at one time.

"We are readily prepared with 400 eggs, and the dye and the cups and the spoons," said Bryn Hough, public relations manager for Carowinds. "Our foods department is actually hard-boiling all those eggs.... We really are looking for folks to come out and have fun."

At least 250 eggs must be dyed during this attempt "in order to be the first published record holder in this category," according to Guinness World Records LIVE!

The park is serious about this world-record attempt: Hough said an official adjudicator has been invited Saturday. If the record is set, the adjudicator can instantly verify the record and make sure it is announced on Guinness World Records' website.

The Weather Channel is forecasting a slight chance of rain for Saturday, but it doesn't matter, as the egg-dyeing will take place under one of Carowinds' picnic shelters. Related activities at the park this weekend will include an Easter egg hunt; appearances by Snoopy the Easter Beagle and the Easter Bunny; a coloring station; and a DJ-hosted party for kids.
