Frank Edgar
Frank Edgar was born on October 16, 1981 in Toms River, New Jersey. Edgar trains with Renzo Gracie Combat Team in New Jersey. He fights for the UFC.Edgar wrestled for Toms River High School East as a teenager. While competing there, he made it to the New Jersey state championship tournament three times. His second place finish as a junior served as the highlight of his high school career. Upon graduation, Edgar wrestled at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where he managed to qualify for the nationals every one of his four years.
Edgar has been working wrestling with Steve Rivera at Elite Wrestling in Jackson, New Jersey since the 7th grade. He is also an assistant coach for the University of Rutgers wrestling team. Edgar's initial MMA training came under Rob Guarino of Rhino Fight Team. He made his MMA debut at Ring of Combat 9 after only a few weeks of training back in 2005, taking home a first round TKO victory over Mark Getto. In fact, Edgar was victorious in his first five professional MMA bouts, including wins over solid fighters like Deividas Taurosevicius and Jim Miller.
Edgar made his UFC debut against Tyson Griffin at UFC 67. Despite being caught in a deep kneebar at the end of round three, he managed to persevere through and win by way of decision. Edgar went 6-1 in the UFC, losing to just Gray Maynard, before he was given a shot at BJ Penn's lightweight title at UFC 112.
