The BBC is reporting that vuvuzelas may be banned from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. The 2 foot (65 centimeters) long plastic horns became a fixture at the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa and were sold at venues and blown at all of the matches and events. The horn even found it's way into the Oxford Dictionary of English, but it's not allowed in several football stadiums and music events in the UK. Vuvuzelas were traditionally used to summon distant villagers to attend community gatherings.
Among the other items that may be banned at the Games include liquids in excess of 100ml, camera tripods, flags of non-participating countries, mobile phones at certain events and objects bearing trademarks or other kinds of promotional signs or messages (hats, T-shirts, bags, etc) which Locog (the London 2012 organizers) believes are for promotional purposes. The Games are set to begin July 27, 2012.
