Apparently, some people in this country don't understand how harmful bullying can be.
A new law in Tennessee is giving students a "license to bully," if they are doing so in the name of their religion. According to reports, lawmakers are seriously considering allowing students to express harmful and damaging opinions to other students if their religion supports their arguments.
The bill is reportedly a top priority for the conservative Family Action Council of Tennessee -- a group that voiced their support in their December newsletter, saying it hopes "to make sure [the law] protects the religious liberty and free speech rights of students who want to express their views on homosexuality."
So basically, a child can do harmful damage to another through their words and actions, be hateful and ignorant, all because their faith system dictates that something is wrong.
Makes us sick just to think about this gross and disgusting bill being passed. Has the multiple suicided of bullied children around the world taught these people nothing about compassion, understanding and community. It hurts our hearts to believe some kid in Tennessee is going to be put down and made fun of relentlessly simply because they are choosing to be exactly who they want to be.
