The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration also indicated the country can be cyclone-free for the next three days.
"Tropical storm 'Carina' which is outside of the Philippine area of responsibility and (cannot) directly affect the country has weakened into a tropical depression and is now heading to Japan," it said on its Twitter account.
While it was in the Philippine area of responsibility late Wednesday, "Talim" was locally codenamed "Carina."
It entered the Philippine area of responsibility before 6 p.m. but exited before 11 p.m.
However, PAGASA said early Thursday it and the southwest monsoon could still generate big waves in Northern Philippines.
Meanwhile, PAGASA indicated the next three days may be cyclone-free, even as a low-pressure area moved closer to Eastern Visayas.
