To King James Go the Spoils

LeBron James cleaned house at last night’s ESPY Awards, Miami.

That noise you hear is the sound of a party getting started to celebrate the guy. Again.

Ha!

James – who skipped the ceremony in favor of his Olympic training – won Male Athlete of the Year, in no small measure for leading the Miami Heat to the NBA Championship.

Way to go, King James!

That Lucky Elizabeth Banks

Some girls are just luckier than others.

Not only did Elizabeth Banks take win some Golden Popcorn (for her Best Transformation in The Hunger Games) at last night’s MTV Movie Awards, the gal – one of my faves – made me incredibly jelly by receiving her award from Magic Mike stars Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, and Joe Manganiello in character as Big Dick Richie and his big ol’ ax, she also got to grind those boys.

Urgh, just thinking about it gets me thinking things....

The Song of 2011

This is quite probably the easiest choice I’ve had to make all year: Adele’s “Someone Like You” is the song of the 2011.

Yeah, it’s reaching an uncomfortable level of ubiquity (it’s been made fun of on SNL, to great effect – GTS), but Adele’s beautiful, career-landmark ballad deserves to be heard time and time again, if anything because she felt it and she wrote it and she shared it. It’s really possibly the rawest of her songs in terms of emotion, and if you have a pulse and two wits about ya you know what I mean and why I chose it (it does what music is supposed to do...relate and move listeners while allowing them to sing along, so to borrow a phrase: winning!).
