Hex Nut Bracelet

I now present... a real life CRAFT Post! Woot woot. Haven't seen one of those around here in a while.
As I was scouring thru pinterest, I came across a few posts pins about a Hex Nut Braided Bracelet. I'd seen similar version before but none really sparked my interest. This one did!
I decided to brave the garage...

There are drawers and drawers of neatly marked bits and bobbles. Wish my craft room was this organized.

The first drawer I found contained some oddly shaped nuts.

The second one had some greater results.
As you can see, those nuts are very dirty. How about we substitute rusty for dirty and keep things G Rated here. I looked for something to clean them and stumbled upon this mystery closest.
I grabbed something that seemed like it would work and ran back inside.
Did I mention that I was barefoot? Very smart decision.

I grabbed my yarn, cut three one yard pieces and started braiding.

I realized my hex nuts were a little bigger than what they had used.
and they refused to stick to hot glue to keep them in place.
 I braided one inch sections
  And wallah!
It's heavy and awkward and will very likely rarely ever be worn. Either way, I'm proud of myself :)
Look at this sweet moment I witnessed in my backyard. Eek! So cute!

Rosette Earings

I've seen these on quite a few CUTE blogs. I forget which ones or else I'd have about a million links right here:
Too bad I don't. I found some earing backs and blank posts in a package in my grandma's sewing basket. I swear that thing is a jackpot...
I created some EXTREMELY tiny rosettes. My hot glue gun wasn't so hot.... The fabric wouldn't stick to it, so I did a finger test. I stuck my finger into fresh "hot" glue. It barely burned. I had to wait for a while before it was truly "hot." I don't know how anyone makes such tiny rosettes! Fat fingers (like mine!) aren't the best for this craft. Well after I created a few, I threw out the bad ones, I chose two that were semi-okay and attached them to the earing posts. It's actually a lot simpler than it sounds. TRUST ME. The price tag on the earings were 79 cents. I have a feeling those were purchased several decades ago and the prices have probably escalated since then.

 Eww my ears look gross!
Anyway... I'm super sorry about not being a rapid poster like some other bloggers out there! I'm still trying to figure out what to do when I'm on vacation. Guest posters maybe? Please leave me a comment if you're interested.

Lace Washer Necklace

Over at Pink Lemonade, I found a GREAT tutorial for an Anthro style necklace made of lace and washers. It's seriously the CUTEST and EASIEST thing to make. I simply snuck into the garage, stole some washers from my dad (shhh!) and made my necklace. The total time was literally ten minutes. That included running into the FREEZING garage in bare feet, finding the washer drawer,  stealing some fine specimens, running downstairs with my catch, selecting some lace, coming up with a design, and creating! SUPER easy! Here's my finished creation:

Gotta have a funny picture. Wearing washers makes me feel tough! Especially since I just came from a track meet where I dominated at shot-put. I guess I can be a little happy... Our girl's team just won their first meet in 4 years. YAY! So ignore my messy ponytail, extremely white skin, and make up that was recently smeared in the rain.
You can't really tell because of the bad lighting, but I used light pink lace.

Rosette Necklace

On Saturday (wow it takes me FOREVER to post things...) I was going through my grandma's button basket.
Here's some of the interesting buttons I found: *squeal*

Not only were there buttons... but zillions of beads! I could only pick out a few... but I assure you that they are down there. Nice and dusty and chipped, but down there.

I dipped the beads in a little bleach with water solution not sure how they'd react and then wiped them off. The paint started to chip so I just scratched it off with a pin. Thankfully it came off in chunks!
The clear bead is one with the paint already scratched off.

I strung about 5 inches of the nice n' clean beads and wallah:

Well that's an awkward picture....

I created three rosettes out of some fabric I found. They don't look too spiffy in that picture...

I braided a cord and some how attached it by braiding the bead's cord into it.... and of course it won't let me import the picture of the cord. Thanks Blogger. Love you too.
Ta da! It looks a lot better on me than on my dirty floor. I would model it in my lovely pajamas... but. yeah.

Bird's Nest Pendent

I found a post at Shabby Soul showing an easy tutorial on how to make these.
She made a little nest very similar to this. It was so cute not to try! Plus my mom's name is Robin so the robin eggs just made me think of her. Mine is a little different. First of all, she used a gold wire, but all I could find in my garage was some silver which I had to strip. Fun fun fun! The only beads I could find were creamy pearls and I didn't feel like going out and getting some blue ones. Well my wallet didn't at least... so I painted them blue. I just need to string a chain through it and it's done! I LOVE it!

It would look nice as a ring!

While forming the nest, I accidently scratched some paint off my beads and repainted them a little when I was done, but I got some on the wire. Oh well.

I'm linking it up to here
