/spits out Sorkin Kool-aid

Brought already reviewed The Newsroom and I don't have any major disagreements with his assessment, except his swipe at Waterston.  THAT MAN IS AN ICON AND YOU WILL SHOW HIM RESPECT, DAMMIT!

I have never been that huge a fan of Sorkin, but I absolutely loved West Wing, his one TV show that was actually both critically acclaimed and immensely successful, ratings wise.  In fact, it was my favorite TV drama of all time until Lost took that spot.  Well I was happy going through life, thinking Sorkin was super talented and West Wing would go down as one of the greatest TV shows of my generation, and then that fucking smug prick had to talk down to some reporter and raise the ire of the Internet.  Now people are attacking him, and I saw the video below.  Reusing the same material over and over again?  YOU ARE A HACK SORKIN!  That shit is lazy.  Unless you just make the same jokes over and over again on skits on a blog.  Then that shit is meta.

Brought Reviews...

So last night was the premiere of Newsroom on HBO. Obviously, the highlight here is that Aaron Sorkin returns to television after adapting the Social Network. He's the biggest name on Newsroom's ticket despite the presence of Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterston. In short? Newsroom has the capacity to be very good, maybe even great. But that's no fun, so here's the long version...

The pilot episode is not all that different from his pilot of Studio 60... (had that show aired on HBO, it would probably still be on. It was fantastic.) where a key figure melts down and the audience will go through the rebuilding process in the aftermath. Jeff Daniels hits the ground running. He's terrific as the lead. It's the surrounding cast that made the pilot feel empty. You immediately know you're supposed to root for Dev Patel. You know you're immediately supposed to hate Don, the overly ambitious dickhead Columbia grad. Unfortunately, Sorkin doesn't take the time to make these characters multi-dimensional just yet. Sam Waterston is the grandfather figure you HAVE to love because of his fun quirks, but there are a couple of instances where he tries to yell that will make you laugh when you're not really supposed to. His voice cracks like a pubescent boy. The current verdict on the rest of the cast is pretty open-ended as most haven't had enough screen time for me to form any opinion on.

Like I said above, Newsroom has the capacity to be very good. Maybe even excellent. But it will require Sorkin to occasionally lay the narrative to the side in order to provide depth to the characters outside of Daniels and Waterston.  If not, this show is going to end up feeling pretty empty.

RE: Jimbo's posting habits over the years

1960s:

Can you guys believe Norman Bates was actually the killer and it wasn't his mother?!?! ZOMG!

1970s:

Whoa! On the edge of my seat. Can you believe The Wicker Man? They burned that detective up real good at the end! Total shocker!

1980s:

OMG! Jason Voorhee's mother was the killer. Totally shocked me!

1990s:

Kevin Spacey was perfect as Keyser Soze! Had me guessing until the end!

2000s:

American Pie 2 rules!

Yup.

Nothing beats a good tv show mashup Tumblr. Arresteros, Swords of Swanson and Mad Development are all excellent ways to waste hours. But today I managed to stumble across the new King of Mashups. Meet Sterling Archer Draper Pryce:

I love you.

Monday Morning Thoughts

After a long and harrowing ordeal last week, I return to find Monday is still a huge asshole. Fucking great. Can I go back to being crippled please? Guuuuhhhh...

... There is nothing more painful than watching your formally great team make their slow journey back to the center. It's especially painful when you are reminded of the first step down because the same team that knocked you then knocks you now in the same exact way with some scrubs wearing the exact same number. At least I can relish the fact that Gap's Fins can't even lose right and Jimbo's Eagles aren't the Green Bay Packers...

... I finally watched the first three seasons of Breaking Bad. It is fantastic. It's not like any other tv show I've ever watched. Is it as good as The Wire or Lost or a hanful of other shows? I don't believe it is. It is certainly over-hyped. But at the same time, it is definitely a must-watch program and it will make you rethink the tv shows you have loved in the past...

... Dear assholes who want to scream from the heavens that JoePa should be banished for his part in the Uncle Jerry mess, I have one thing to ask you. If your best friend of over 4 decades was witnessed committing a crime of this magnitude, would you have the moral turpitude to report it to your chain of command? Would you work with investigative teams for more than 3 years to build evidence against your friend? Because of all of the people tangled in this mess, Joe is the only one who had to turn on his friend. So until you pious dipshits are put into that position, how about you throw your stones at the men that Joe trusted to do the right thing and who have been indicted. Cunts.
